I had my surgery yesterday at 12.15 and was taken up to the ward about 2.15pm. I was sick up to 11.00pm, when we finally found an anti-sickness drug that worked. Not a pretty sight as you can imagine. Once I felt better I told the nurse I was going to use my HRT oestrogen gel and she advised not to until I spoke to dr today. I explained I’d used it for nearly three yrs so intended on using it and I did. From what I’ve experienced so far, I don’t see the point waiting to talk to a dr when they seem totally ill informed and disinterested in discussing menopause and HRT it fully.

Hi Mave, I requested physio before my discharge as I had heard many discharged without further post op instructions. Like you had womb and cervix removed kept ovaries no discussion on HRT but my surgeon had advised that it might bring on menopause post op. I'm 51 and six months post op no symptoms so far. If you want to get in touch when your back home with any questions feel free.

I Caroline I’m back home now and as suspected, nowhere throughout the whole process was there any proper discussion on effects of menopause and HRT treatment. I think a system needs putting in place pre op. There’s too many women going into operations, or being sent home from operations un prepared and left suffering alone. I just want to raise safeness where I can to help any other women in the same boat. Thanks for comment, Kate
